[[Substation]]s are located throughout the whole electrical grid, from the [[power plant]]s all the way to the distribution grid. The distribution grid uses overhead and underground [[electrical transmission#Power Lines|subtransmission power lines]] which operate between 26 kV and 69 kV.<ref name=prime/> These connect to the distribution substations that distribute the power to where it is needed via lower voltage distribution lines (2.4 - 33 kV), shown in Figure 1. These lines lead to transformers that step-down the electricity while also preventing circuit overloads from affecting voltages at other points on the grid.
