This constant is written as &amp;#039;&amp;#039;R&amp;#039;&amp;#039;, and is a constant of proportionality (constant number that is multiplied on one side of a proportional relationship to make them equal) for the [[ideal gas law]].&amp;lt;/onlyinclude&amp;gt; The ideal gas law is simply &amp;lt;m&amp;gt;pV=nRT&amp;lt;/m&amp;gt; where &amp;lt;m&amp;gt;p&amp;lt;/m&amp;gt; is pressure, &amp;lt;m&amp;gt;V&amp;lt;/m&amp;gt; is volume, &amp;lt;m&amp;gt;n&amp;lt;/m&amp;gt; is the number of [[mole]]s of gas, &amp;lt;m&amp;gt;R&amp;lt;/m&amp;gt; is the ideal gas constant.
