Miles per hour

Both speed and velocity are measured by taking the distance traveled during some duration, and dividing that length by a time. Using lengths in miles and time in hours, leads to the derived unit of miles per hour. This measurement unit is popular in places such as the US and UK, where traffic speed limit postings are measured in mph.

Examples

  • Typical traffic limits can be anywhere from 5mph to 75mph
  • The fastest baseball (US) pitches reach just over 100mph
