A mile (mi) is a unit of distance equal to 1.609344 kilometers. It is commonly used in the United States and several other parts of the world, either to describe distances (mi), speeds (mph) or other rates (ie. miles per gallon).

Visit Dr. Rowlett's unit dictionary for more information and historical definitions of the mile.
