Tonne of oil equivalent (toe) is a unit of energy, defined as the amount of energy released by burning one tonne (1000 Kilograms) of crude oil. The toe is used to describe large amounts of oil or natural gas in transport or consumption, and will often use a prefix of mega (1 000 000) in order to communicate this as Mtoe.

Mtoe

Millions of tonnes of oil equivalent (Mtoe) is a unit of energy used to describe the energy content of all fuels, typically on a very large scale. It is equal to 4.1868x1016 Joules, or 41.868 petajoules which is a tremendous amount of energy. The Mtoe is much smaller than the quad, but can be multiplied by 1000 in order to compare to it (1000 Mtoe = 1 Gtoe = 39.68 quad).[1]
