Kilometers per liter

Kilometers per liter is a measurement of fuel economy. It is rarely used, because liters per hundred kilometers has been adopted as the standard in much of the world. Kilometers per liter is not viewed as an accurate measure of fuel consumption because it doesn't change linearly with how much gasoline is used, see Figure 1 below.


One kilometer per liter is equal to:
2.36 miles per gallon
The graph above shows that fuel consumption does not decrease at a linear rate with km per liter increase.[1]
